A Sunny Fall Day....

It has been such a hot, sunny autumn this year...we have loved spending time doing what we do bet as a family...walking in the parks. This time it was Kin Coulee, which we discovered has a great little kids playground. It doesn't really matter what we are doing, as long as we are doing it together, we are having fun!

Willow is 14 Months Old!

How the time flies! I know I say that every month but it is just so true! The other day a receipt for the music classes that I signed her up for came in the mail, on Medicine Hat College stationary and Adam and I joked about how Willow is starting college already! Ok, so time is not passing that quickly, thank goodness. But it is really incredible to see her comprehension of the world growing day by day. She remembers family members, near and far, by photographs. She can point out her cousins, aunts, Baba etc. She loves the natural world and any time spent in a park or playground she will stop to point out birds, dogs, cats, leaves, trees, the moon, the train, airplanes, ants, lady bugs....anything she is familiar with either through direct experience or through books. She loves her books and we spend a couple days a week at the library checking out new books and playing with other kids. We also have a set of alphabet flashcards that she loves. I think one of the reasons that she likes them so much is because the pictures on them are actual photographs of objects, not stylized drawings, so she really seems to 'get' them. She is beginning to learn her letters and will study my lips and copy the sounds. It seems that her desire for language and communication is very strong and she gets quite frustrated when we don't understand her. She has even picked up a couple more signs, which I had only showed her once or twice, so I was pretty surprised. She now uses the sign for 'more' or 'again' and 'water'. It seems so natural for her, I even have seen her imitate my hands during conversations and doing 'jazz hands' while listening to music. She is starting to get the idea of drawing and mark making....the first steps towards writing. Everyday she seems to come up with something new as I watch her amazing world unfold right before her eyes. It is true that parenting is difficult; the sleep deprivation, the complete diminishing of my 'self' and absolute disintegration of personal time being the most challenging things that immediately come to mind. But it is amazing and entertaining and fun and rewarding beyond compare. Unconditional Love is very good for the constitution!

Willow Goes out for Lunch

Willow had a great time with Baba and Angie. She keeps saying Baba loud and really brought a smile to Baba's face! She is getting pretty good at coloring with the crayons now and only eats them a little bit. Later, it was nap time...look at those cheeks!

Willow's Weekend Away....

This Friday we hit the road to Calgary on our way to Edmonton. We did an overnight avec Chez Lipka and had a delicious morning coffee at Lina's complete with espresso's and chocolate croissants - heaven! Here's Casey, Ada and Willow are all smiles at Lina's. Then we hit the highway to Edmonton, eager to get into town in time for Kyran's 3rd Birthday! Willow was so happy to get out of the car directly into a playground party! Even she got a present from Aunty Lisa! After, she had so much fun helping Kyran set up his new train set. It's fun being friends with a big kid!

End of Summer Rangoli

I felt inspired by the cool air and the abundance of color in the dried flower heads in my yard to make a Rangoli to mark the end of summer. I have seen artists in Vancouver do beautifully elaborate ones to mark special days throughout the year....ours wasn't too elaborate or perfect but it was special to us.(click this link if you want to see more pics)

Adam's Birthday....

Willow helped to celebrate Adam's/Daddy's birthday today...we had a great walk at Police Point Park, a dinner out, shopping at the Western store for a new fancy cowboy shirt, more presents, ice cream cake - the works! It was a great day! It is so good that Adam's work gives them a paid day off on their really was a treat for all of us. By the way, here is a pic of Willow at the park and as you can see, she took a pretty good tumble on her head last week. Not to worry, she fine now and her head is too.
