Raspberry Grin...

Willow is a good eater...she tries new stuff and feeds herself almost anything that I put in front of her. She really likes avacado and eats it pretty much everyday but I think her very favorite food is raspberries. Makes sense...I love raspberries, too. She is so easy to Love! Adam took so many cute pictures of her on this day but I chose this one because you can really see her teeth in it. (If you double click on the picture, you should get an enlarged view) She now has six teeth making up that toothy grin and I am very happy to report that the teething pain has subsided almost completely since last week....phew! It's hard to say who is happier about that, me or her. Either way, it's smiles galore over here and those new chompers are really doing their job, as you can see.

Willow at Nine Months

Nine Months Old!

Wow, my baby is growing up! She is looking more and more like a toddler everyday! The leaps and bounds that she has been making in her understanding and curiousities about the world are exciting, joy-filled and fun! In contrast to that, the misery of teething that she has been going through for the past four days is hard to face. She is sleeping now, thank goodness, because she really hasn't been sleeping well. And while she is awake... oh the tears and the screaming and the ma-ma-ma's like I have never seen her do before. What can a mama do when her baby is writhing in pain, except to hold her and cuddle her and let her nurse 'til those nipples feel like they are going to pop right off? Poor girl. This teething phase seems to be affecting her balance or concentration because yesterday she took more spills and tumbles than I have ever seen, doing things that she already had mastered. Ahhh, growing pains! Willow's attachment to both of us has increased and we are sure that the ma-ma-ma's and the da-da-da's that we are hearing are the real thing. All this indicates that she is learning how to communicate with us, so we are also bumping up the signing. So far I think she understands 'bird', probably because of the birdhouse that we have hanging outside the kitchen window, and she always says 'mow' to Irie, our cat, when he enters the room. She continuously points to the things that interest her and says 'Huh?', trees, water, flowers, animals top the list of her interest. She is a raging little crawling machine and she loves to practice walking with help...it won't be long until she is doing that on her own, too. She loves to laugh and loves it when the people around her burst into laughter, she joins right in...and keeps on going as long as she is getting some more laughs out of her audience. She waves hello and goodbye to people and birds and trees and other babies. What can I say, she is one amazing, determined, clever, beautiful child with a very funny sense of humour! She is pure Love!

E-Town

We had a great time in Edmonton this past weekend, despite the April snowstorm! Willow travelled really well and was so interested in all of the new faces and sights in Edmonton. I posted all the pics in a new picasa album, the link is on the side there. At Adam's request, we visited West Edmonton Mall, the monstrosity. After a couple hours, we were all sufficiently over-stimulated for the day. But is was fun to see Willow's impressions of it all. It's amazing how having a child can make things that before seemed outrageously horrible into something fun and interesting...and by that I mean the Mall, not Edmonton in general. I told Adam that we really need to go back there again in the summer, when the river valley is green and the likelihood of a snowstorm is slim. We also did a tour of the Legislature to kind of balance out the sightseeing part of the trip. Of course, the real reason we were there was to drink good coffee and visit Whyte Ave. I must say that visiting with Willow sure made me feel happy about how far I have travelled in life. Bringing her and Adam to my home town, my birthplace, I was just bubbling over with Mama pride!

We hope to do a few more Alberta road trips this summer...
