Sweet Girl

Wow, Willow, she always surprises me with how much she can grow and change in short time....all that time with her older cousins must've taught her a thing or two....

Willow Chilling on Boxing Day

The excitement is all over...the cousins are heading back to Ottawa....a happy calm settles over Willow's World as things return to 'normal'....the echoes of her cousins remain and there are lots of new toys to enjoy! Life is good!

Christmas Eve....

So many exciting things happened on December 24th.

One of the best things that happened in Willow's World was this...she discovered that she could actually suck her own toes!

Towards the evening the excitement was peaking...here is a vid of cousin Artemis opening her 'baby owl'....

And a vid of Willow opening her first present ever...it was a slow process and of course the ribbon was the most intriguing part!

The Excitement Mounts....

Willow, the social butterfly, laughs it up with the family. She can do a lot of visiting but when it's time to stop Dad's lap is the perfect refuge.

Willow's Cousins Arrive.......

How exciting! Willow and her cousins Demeter (13 months) and Artemis (3 years)finally got the chance to hang out and get to know each other a little bit. Willow seemed to love all of the action and activity - although she was a little freaked out at some of the loud noises that Demeter came up with. It is so cool to see them and to think that now and forever, for the rest of their lives, these girls are family.

Willow Loves her Sled and the Snow

We got the chance to head down to our favorite park on Sunday for a little snow and fun. Of course she is all smiles for the camera but shortly before this picture was taken the little tree was actually sound asleep cuddled up in her sled as Mom and Dad pulled her along. While she was awake, she enjoyed watching the trees sillouetted against the blue sky as she glided along the snow.

Willow and her New Sled

Tonight Willow got an early Christmas present from her Grandma and Opa - a new old fashioned style sled! It's the perfect gift for this warm, snowy weather we've been having. She seemed at home in it right away...we can't wait to try it out!

Wee Wonder Willow!

It's pretty amazing when all of a sudden it seems like Willow has grown overnight. Like one day she is still kind of wobbly and can't really sit up on her own and then the next day, prest-o, she is able to prop herself up and balance on her own. She is still a little wobbly...I wouldn't leave her side for a moment yet when she is sitting because she still tips over sometimes. But she is gaining more strength all the time. These are pretty exciting times, her two cousins Artemis and Demeter will be here form Ottawa in a week so it is going to be a crazy kid play party all through the holidays. I think Willow is at a stage now where she is going to be able to participate and know what is going on...at least a little bit and that is so much fun to see. We are completely in Love with our beautiful daughter and Adam and I are very much entertained and enthralled in what we are experiencing, this 'the longest journey' - parenting.

Willow's Playdate

On Friday Willow had a play date with Navaya and I don't know who enjoyed it more, her or I. Kendra and I had great chats, relishing in the adult conversation for a change. Willow enjoyed all of the new toys and watched Navaya curiously. Her new little friend is about twice her age and is walking around like crazy, but they are matched in size...funny. Willow only cried a couple times and that was due to the 'tiredees' and once when Navaya gave her a little swipe to the face. All in a good day's fun! It is really good for the both of us to get out and have a little change of scenery and fun. I am looking forward to our next play date!

Willow's First Food

Wow, you know your baby is growing up when you see them holding a spoon and smacking down on something other than the boob! I know that her food experiences right now are just that, for experience, and not for nutritional value. Not much food is actually going in, but she sure enjoys trying. The applesauce sensation seemed pretty interesting...maybe next week we will try some avocado. Either way I think we are still a little ways away from full fledged eating but I think that she likes using that high chair try for something other than toys. Now she can start to know what all the hype is about every time we sit down at the table to eat.

More Mirror Fun

The mirror now has become a big source of amusement. I tend to move it around to wherever she is playing...she particularly likes it while she's in her Jolly Jumper. I can see her understanding of herself growing and developing every day. She is so much fun to be around!

20 week update

Wow..Willow continues her epic trek towards grown up-ness. This week she discovered those funny things at the end of her legs..yes her feet. I am sure that it is only a matter of time until she is sticking them in her mouth. She giggles and laughs so easily now...especially during a good session of 'peekaboo' or 'where's Mommy?'. When she is not laughing, she is usually staring, mouth agape, at the interesting things around her - the Christmas tree, the snow out the window, the cat etc. You can see in her eyes that she in amused or in awe...it is very sweet to see. She gets a lot of her toys into her mouth now and her hands, fingers and even her thumb! She has tons of droolies....but no sign of any teeth cutting through yet. The tooth pain seems pretty irritating at time, she frantically rubs her fist along her gums for some relief. She experienced her first party this weekend...we went to Adam's staff Christmas party. She liked looking at all the people and loved dancing with Mum and Dad to the 'rockin'band. We decorated our little Christmas tree and she really like that- carefully reaching out to touch the sparkly decorations as I hung them. She can reach out with both hands and grab all the things that interest her. She can almost sit up on her own now, and she uses her hand to prop herself up. She continues to be the cutest, most perfect little baby in our world!

Willow Loves the Mirror

This is very entertaining for the wee one. I think she is starting to figure out that the pretty girl in the mirror is her!

Gifts.....

Wow! The time sure flies! Willow continues to be the brightest light in my life (and every person that she touches with her baby-joy-beams). I try to capture every moment but it is just not possible. Much of this time is a precious gift that only Mummies get to experience. Today I got many toothless grins and big giggle...all for me!

Willow Loves the Lights

I know it's a little early still but...it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....and Willow had her first look at all the sparkley lights at the Golden Acres Christmas display. Adam said it reminded him of being a kid and going to the Eaton's Centre to look at the displays in the store windows. It was so fun to watch her trance-like stares!

Willow and her Music Box

Everything this girl does just melts me....

Willow the Rock Angel

She's really getting her smile on! I am going to miss that toothless grin!

Four Months Old!

In the words of Adam/Daddy, "Can you believe it?!!!!"

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Wow!

Did I mention that Willow can almost sit up on her own now?

The Wind and the Willow.....

Willow is now sitting front ways in her stroller....I guess she has been doing it for a couple of weeks now. She likes facing out to the world but still she usually has a little snooze too. She also does this cute thing when it is really windy..she sort of sucks in the air really quickly and 'tastes' it with her tongue while making in these really sweet little grunting sounds. I am not sure if she likes the wind or not...it seems like she is just trying to figure out what all this extra air is about.

Mama Love

Well little Willow, my gorgeous girl, is only a few days away from being four months old and I can't believe how quickly she has been changing and growing. It is amazing to watch her discover herself and the world around her. Yesterday she experienced quite a bit of excitement and curiosity as she licked and tasted the apple that Dad was eating. In fact she didn't want to stop licking...her tastebuds must be getting a little bored of milkies for every meal! On Saturday she had a fun time as someone new carried her around in her carrier - Opa! I think they both had a lot of fun. But truly the most amazing thing that she has been doing this week, and I wish I had a picture of it but I don't, yet....she can turn the pages on the little story books as I read them to her. I find this totally amazing! Her hands are still a little clumsy and don't always seem to go exactly where she intends, but she can get them in there to turn the pages of her board books. And it is deliberate! Yesterday we were reading and she did it about 5 or 6 times! Is this normal? I have no idea but I think she is a super genius! I mean, she's not even four months old yet! Willow, you truly amaze me...I love you more than I ever thought possible! So, today was back to story time at the library, which she really enjoys. And right now is nap time... and I found a perfect little Haiku in my Haiku Mama book that I just need to share:

O, lovely naptime.
You are better than birthdays
with the gifts you bring.

I am really into this Mama thing...it is rewarding and entertaining...it's beats the hell out of having a 'real' job and just like Morag said, it is so much more fun than being pregnant! Give me pukies and sleepless nights anytime over overflowing in-boxes and voice mail messages! I Love Willow!

Willow's First Halloween!

Willow seemed pretty excited by the trick or treating fun! We only went to two houses, our neighbors the Shannon's and later, Grandma and Opa's house. I was glad that she didn't mind being a 'lil pumpkin in the costume I made. It was good because it was so fluffy and poofy that it ended up keeping her warm. Of course, we ate the candy, not her.

A Week in Willow's World....

Ok, so it seems that I don't have enough time to blog all of the Willow moments as they happen, so I figured I might employ a little 'this week in review' type technique. Heavy on the pictures, low on commentary, hopefully this will be enough to satisfy even the most chronic Willow curiosities. Here she is 3 months and 2 weeks old.....

She plays hard...

She loves a good 'swim'...

She's starting to make buddies with this thing called 'cat'....

She's really starting to figure things out.....

But she doesn't always like all the attention she's getting.....

She loves a good time with Dad....

She's up for just about anything!

We love her so much. I am the camera happy Mama who wants to capture and savour every last little tidbit of her ever changing and fleeting baby-ness! Everyday is an adventure. Thanks for checking us out...I am happy to share and glad that you love her too!

Willow's 'Firsts'

So many changes this week, so many 'firsts', I almost can't remember them all! At times like this, I kinda want to tell little Willow, 'Slow down, wee one! Plenty of time to grow up!' Lets see... she had her first go at the Excersaucer - so much fun. I think she gets a little sick of doing stuff laying down, although I try to keep that to a reasonable minimum - I didn't want her getting a flat head, y'know! And she is not too keen on sitting in her little chairs for very long - still not quite enough tummy/back strength to sit up properly...but the Excersaucer is just perfect. She can sit /stand upright and there are all these great toys to check out. I keep in the kitchen and it allows me some hands free time to tidy up, cook, bake whatever...it's so great! Yay for new inventions that help Moms grab moments of productivity!

Another first, which is a BIG one is her first bottle of Mom's milk. I had tried once before and she couldn't quite get the idea of it but this time, she sort of got it! She's still not as good at sucking the bottle as she is at Mom's breast, but it is a great first step. And it was pretty cool for Adam to have the experience of feeding Willow. I must say, it is a little sad as this seems like the first tiny step towards our separation and her independence....and I suppose the beginning of the end of our special feeding relationship but it also marks the first steps towards a bit of freedom for me. It's hard because on one hand, I want to be selfish and I don't want her to share that special relationship with anyone else, but on the other hand, I need to let other people help me and Love her. Hopefully one day I will actually be able to leave her with Grandma and Opa for an evening while Adam and I go out on a date! Awww, the thought of it makes me happy and sad all at once!
